week 2
week 2 assignment 3
Reading Rockets seems like a super effective and brilliant literacy instruction method. I learned so much for viewing the clips and reading the website.
Here is a short summery of my research:
Print Awareness
Children who have an awareness of print understand that the squiggly lines on a page represent spoken language. Parents can have major effects on bringing about this awareness. Children who are read stories from a young age have a deeper understanding and awareness about this concept.
Children's minds are like wet cement the more they are taught when their young the more they will know and develop. Reading and writing are intertwined. Writing is another good method to improving ones reading skills.

Sounds of speech
Phonological awareness: To comprehend a spoken language, a child must be able to hear and distinguish the sounds that make up the language. Children must be taught individual sounds and blending.
phonics
The understanding of the alphabetic principle – the idea that letters and letter patterns represent the sounds of spoken language. Phonics is learning that there are predictable relationships between sounds and letters. Students can apply these methods to decoding new words.
Fluency
fluency provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. Fluency is the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression. In the video they relayed the fluency aids comprehension. when students are fluent in their reading skills they can focus more on comprehending the material.
Vocabulary
Beginning readers must use the words they hear orally to make sense of the words they see in print. The greater vocabulary the greater fluency and comprehension level. In the video I learned great methods to building vocabulary.
comprehension
is building understanding of text. Good readers think actively as they read. They use their experiences and knowledge of the world, vocabulary, language structure, and reading strategies to make sense of the text.
Chaya, you summarized what you learned in a great way! I enjoyed reading your summary.
