week 11

Understanding text structure is an essential component to reading and comprehending expository texts. Expository text are structured to aid the study process for budding readers. Readers who are familiar with text structures expect the information to unfold in certain ways thereby aiding their comprehension. Text features can help readers locate and organize information in the text. When information is organised and clear the information will be committed to long term memory. It is important to introduce students to the components of various texts throughout the school year because structural elements in expository texts vary. The recognition and use of text organization are essential processes underlying comprehension and retention. Use of a graphic organizer is extremely efficient in training to students to understand text structure.
