week 13
week 13 assignment 1
Debbie Erentrua is a very soft hearted and thinking young girl. She has a lot of friends and comes from a large family of ten children. Debbie helps her mother a lot by taking care of her young siblings. Debbie lives in Jerusalem, Israel and attends Bais Yaakov tzafon- a hebrew speaking school. Debbie’s parents both grew up here in Israel yet both of their mothers are English so they understand and speak the basics of the language. Debbie’s parents were determined that their children learn and understand a fluent English. Debbie attends an advanced English class since second grade hoping to learn and grasp the language. Debbie is currently in fourth grade. She has expanded her scope and knowledge of the language in a big way.
I learned a lot from observing Debbie an throughout this semester. I was able to implicate the lessons we learned in real life. The lessons became alive and vibrant through this observation. I learned specifically about English Language Learners and how important it is to cater to their specific needs. A lot of practice and support goes a long way with students in every area especially ELL’s . They need the extra confidence and support from their parents, teachers and peers to motivate them to succeed. Teaching ELL’s can prove to be a real challenge yet the satisfaction you feel after you help them cannot be compared. As a teacher you must remember to be patient, loving and caring providing your students with the proper support enabling them to succeed! Another important factor to remember is to constantly assess your students as you teach to note their progress. You want to be sure your students is gaining and learning from your lessons and the way to do that is through constant assessments.
