week 3
week 3 assignment 2
There are many different forms of assessment a teacher can use to help measure the students learning outcome. An informal method of assessment in the first lesson plan, such as observing ones students through classroom discussions helps give the teacher a clue to where her students are holding. Short quizzes and worksheets at the end of a lesson is another effective assessment method. In the second lesson plan, where the students collaborate in group work, the teacher should be careful to divide the students into groups where each students will be able to contribute. Another good way to insure every students cooperation is by assigning specific tasks for each group mate. In the third lesson plan the teacher should go through her students work to assess their comprehension of the material.
Week 3 assignment 3
The Qualitative Reading Inventory is an informal reading inventory which is designed to give information behind a students ability of word identification and comprehension of text. The QRI-5 provides results which can be used to estimate students’ reading levels, to group students for guided reading sessions, or to choose appropriate books for literacy circles, reading workshops, and independent reading. It also can used to decide about intervention and methods of instruction or to document students growth. I've watched a similar assessment method where the teacher provided her students with reading passages and each student independently would read a passage on their level. The teacher would privately time her student as she read teasing her fluency with reading. She would have her students self correct their errors when necessary. When a student mastered her level passage in one minute she was able to move on to the next level. From researching about QRI-5 i feel like it is a very effective assessment method. When students are assessed individually and informally it is more likely for them to use their true capabilities giving the teacher a real clue on to where each student is holding.
